x-5 / 2x-5

  =>3x-15=2x-5 =>x=10.
Their present ages are 10 and 20.
After 5 years, their ages will be 10+5 and 20+5 = 15 and 25

Explanation : Mother’s age is 5 times the age of the daughter.
      Let age of the daughter be x and age of the mother be 5x.
        After 3 years, their ages will be x+3 and 5x+3.
Given that after 3 years, age of mother will be 4 times the age of daughter.
The ratio of the ages of mother and daughter after 3 years = 4:1
            Therefore,
5x+3 / x+3
=
4 / 1
=>5x+3 = 4x+12
                                      =>x=9
  Present age of the daughter is 9 years.
After 3 years, age of the daughter will be  x+3 = 9+3 = 12 years

             After 5 years, their ages will be x+5 and 3x+ 5.

=>5 (x+5)= 2(3x+5) =>5x+25=x+10 =>x=15 years.
       The difference between their ages is=>3x-x=2x =2 x 15 = 30 years

        After 15 years, his age will be = x+15

         =>(x+15) =4(x-15)
         => 4x-60= x+15 =>x= 25 years
Alternate method:
        The ratio of the ages of Murthy 15 years ago and 15 years hence= 4:1
         The difference between these two = 15 +15 = 30 years
                4-1 = 3 parts = 30 years =>1 part=10
     Age of Murthy after 15 years = 4x 10 = 40 years

             Therefore, present age of Murthy = 40-15 = 25 years.
