PARTS OF SPEECH
In grammar, a part of speech (also called lexical categories, grammatical categories or word classes) is a linguistic category of words. Words are divided into different kind of classes called parts of speech. According to their use the parts of speech are eight in number.
Noun: A noun is the name of a person, a creature, a place, or a thing. A noun is a word used to refer to people, animals, objects, substances, states, events, ideas and feelings
Ex:Krishna, Rama, Delhi, John, lion, table, freedom, love etc
Pronoun: A Pronoun is a word used instead of a noun or noun-equivalent.
Ex:she, he, it, they, then, I, you, etc.
Adjective: A word that qualifies or describes a noun or a pronoun.
Examples : good, beautiful, nice, my
Ex:She has beautiful hair.
The uglyman ate the seven luscious mangoes.
Verb: A verb expresses what the subject of a sentence is or does, or has, or what is done to it.
Ex:She speaks English
Adverb: An Adverb is a word that normally modifies a verb, an adjective or another verb.
Example : completely, never, there
Ex:He walked almost to the end of the road.
The boy is fond of music.
The very ugly man rapidly ate the luscious apple.
Preposition: A preposition is a word that shows in what relation a noun or a noun equivalent stands to some other word. Prepositions are used before nouns to form a phrase that shows where, when, how and why.
Some of the chief prepositions are:
In, on, by, at, into, under, for, to etc.
Conjunction: A Conjunction is a word used to join together words, phrases or clause. They are link words.
Ex:but, for, that, because, and, when and or etc.
